Leave the Stairlift switched on

You should always leave the Stairlift Switched on! There really is no need to switch it off in fact switching it off could cause problems when you come to use it

Stairlifts are designed to be left switched on 24 hours a day 7 Days a week, even if not in use for long periods of time. If you switch unplug your stairlift the stairlift circuits may still use power from the batteries and if unplugged from the wall socket they will no longer recharge eventually leading to the batteries going completely flat

We understand the concerns when it comes to the question should we leave the Stairlift switched on especially due to the financial economic climate we are facing and high price increases in electricity 2022 and rising even higher later this year

You might think it’s a good idea to isolate the chairlift if going away for a few days or even weeks etc. It is not wise to isolate unplug the chairlift the problem arises on returning home you now find the Stair lift will not function when switched back on

Chances are the batteries are now flat exhausted and switching the unit back on may not recharge the batteries. When the voltage of sealed lead acid battery’s fall below 1.5v it’s highly unlikely they will recharge and even if they did it would be a number of hours before they are fully recharged to a point one could now use the Stairlift

Average charging time for the batteries to fully recharge eight to twelve hours that means you are now stranded for most of the day waiting for the unit to recharge

Stairlift battery replacement is not cheap as well as the inconvenience of having to wait for an engineer to attend with a hefty fee Call-Out charge and new batteries. The incident could have been simply avoided by leaving the unit plugged in and switched on

So if going away on holiday or a stay in hospital due to medical health problems, simply leave your stairlift switched on and parked docked at the bottom / top of the rail on charge or if the Stairlift has an intermediate parking charge point then that would be the best place to leave it

When you return home your trusted friend will be waiting for you at the bottom of the stairs wagging his tail and ready to go “woof woof”
